A couple was flying a drone (black quadcopter) from the parking lot over EBMUD property. Called EBPRD to ask whether that was legal. “No, it’s not legal anywhere in the EBRPD system.” Reading EBMUD (see reg below), the same appears to apply.
We provided description of the couple and car (black 2014 Honda Accord with Virginia license plate) and EBRPD said they would send an officer. We continued birding and shortly thereafter (likely unrelated to the call) the drone landed. I hoped it stopped because the operator’s camera locked onto me while I was filming it.
Of note was the moment the quadcopter left the ground, two ravens flew out of a tree 50 feet away and headed south. We’ve seen ravens in the lot each time we park there. They live there. Their reaction was immediate. The quadcopter was still loud and unmistakable 500 feet away.
